"My family is torn apart,
and we are receiving threatening messages," said Mary Eborson in a
telephone call to the Chairman of the Nigeria Union on Monday, 22 April 2024.
Mary, the elder sister of Christopher Eborson, expressed that the family is
reaching out to the Nigeria Union (NUSA) Gauteng for assistance. She mentioned
the incident on March 18, 2023, where Mr. Alexander Chukwuwbuni, also known as
Boye, a member of the Neo-Black Movement of Africa (NBM), was brutally murdered
in Sandton, involving two of her brothers who are currently on the run.
Mary shared, "Our family has
been in turmoil since last year's events. Recently, one of my cousins was shot
in CAG The Cube, Rivonia, on Monday, 6 November 2023, by an unknown assailant.
Thank God he survived it. Additionally, my brother's wife, Phumla Eborson, has
been receiving threatening messages and calls from unknown numbers, warning her
that she will be the next target if she doesn't produce her husband."
Expressing fear for Phumla and
the children's safety, Mary pleaded for assistance from the Union, saying,
"We are all terrified and don't know where to turn. Please help us."
She also shared a threatening message with the Union Chairman, which included
personal details and menacing statements.
One of the messages she shared
with the Union chairman reads “You’re busy with cultist activities. You and
your family will never be happy. We will find you and your family. SA is too
small. You foreigners think you can do whatever you want in this country. We
know where your kids go to school, we know the car you drive, we know your car
number plate. Count your days. You think you are safe. We will not rest until
we find you and your family. We don’t make empty threats, you can never run
forever”
Innocent family members should
not be victims of issues in which they are not involved. We urge our citizens
to be law-abiding, respect the laws and culture of South Africa, and be good
representatives of Nigeria in the diaspora. The Union has advised the family to
file an official complaint with the South African Police Services (SAPS) and is
urging those involved in the intimidation and threats to cease their actions.
Let's work together to promote peace and understanding between our communities.
