COMMUNIQUE TO MEMBERS OF THE NIGERIAN COMMUNITY IN SOUTH AFRICA.

The attention of the Nigerian Union Gauteng; has been drawn to the Incident of Tuesday, 10 January 2023, where four Nigerians lost their lives, and several others sustained gunshot injuries. The incidents occurred in Hillbrow, Pretoria West, Sunnyside, and Rossentiville.

Nigerian Union Gauteng mourns with the families and friends of those who lost their lives. Nigerian Union also calls on its members and members of the larger Nigerian Community to be vigilant, stay safe, and report any suspicious incident to the Union. We are doing everything within our power to bring everything under control.

After identifying the perpetrators that carried out the attacks in Pretoria West and Sunnyside, the matter is before the Police, the High Commission of Nigeria, Pretoria, and the Consulate General of Nigeria, in Johannesburg.

We plead with the perpetrators to stop the killing. If the killing continues, most importantly, if an innocent REGISTERED MEMBER of Nigerian Union Gauteng is affected, we will be left with no other choice than to mobilize members of our community, members of the host country, and the Police against the perpetrators.

We advise well-meaning and decent Nigerians in Gauteng to register as members of the Nigerian Union, Gauteng, and take advantage of the benefits. Together, we can make a difference, assist, and empower one another.
